LESSON PLAN (Presenting Sets Using Venn Diagram)

A.    Learning Objectives
1.      Students are able to describe the definition of Venn diagram
2.      Students are able to draw a Venn diagram from the set
3.      Students are able to read a Venn diagram from the set
B.     Materials
VENN DIAGRAM
Definition of Venn Diagram :
A Venn Diagram is a diagram that illustrates the relationships between sets.
Model of Venn Diagram
The component of Venn diagram :
1.    Universal set is usually represented by a rectangle area
2.    The set is represented by a simple closed curve
3.    Each element of set is represent by node or point
            EXERCISE
1.      Illustrate the sets below using Venn diagram model
 S ={Natural number less than 15}
     A = {Odd number less than 10}
     B ={Prime number less than 15}
2.      Find the element of set S, P and Q from the Venn diagram below!

The teacher gives greeting to the students : “Good afternoon my students
The students answer the teacher’s greeting.

The teacher asks the students about the student’s condition “How are you today?” then also ask about student’s presence “Any students absent today?”

The teacher remind the students about the materials in the last meeting : In the last meeting we have learned about the definition of the set, elements of a set, empty set, and universal sets.
Then, the teacher explains to the students if in this meeting they will learn about the Venn diagram and presenting set with Venn diagram : Then, in this meeting we will learn about the Venn diagram and presenting set with Venn diagram.
The students pay attention the teacher’s explanation.

B. Main Activities

The teacher asks the students to prepare their books and stationary to write down the teacher’s explanation before the teaching learning process is began : Okay students, please prepare your books and stationary to write down my explanation.
The students do preparation.

The teacher asks the students how to explain set easily : Do you know how to explain set easily?


Then, the teacher says : Yes, that’s right. To explain set we can use Venn diagram and the teacher write “Venn Diagram” in the whiteboard.
The teacher also ask the students to write down the title in the student’s book : Please, write down the title on your own books.
Hope anyone students answer the teacher question. The answer is Venn Diagram.

The teacher asks the students about the definition of the Venn diagram : “Any students know the definitions of a Venn diagram?”
Hope the students answer the question : Like a circle.

Then, the teacher shows the model of a Venn diagram and also explain the definition and the characteristics of a Venn diagram by demonstrating the model of a Venn diagram : I have the model of the Venn diagram. In Venn diagram, Universal set is usually represented by a rectangle area. The set is represented by a simple closed curve. Each element of set is represent by node or point.
The students consider the teacher’s explanation.

The teacher asks the students about the simple closed curves : “What is the simple closed curves?
Any students answer the teacher’s question.

Then, the teacher draws the example of the simple closed curve and gives explanation about how to make the simple closed curve : When we make a curve without take away the pencil and the starting  point meet with the endpoint without intersect itself it is called a simple closed curve.
The students listen to the teacher’s explanation carefully.

7.
The teacher gives the example of the set.
S = {1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10}
P  = {Odd number less than 10}
Then, the teacher demonstrates it by using Venn diagram model.

The students listen to the teacher’s explanation carefully and then any students come to the class to demonstrate the set using Venn diagram.

The teacher gives exercise for the students to do in group. The students divide into two groups that consist of four students each group. Then, the teacher writes the exercises on the whiteboard : I have some exercises for you. Please, do it! You may discuss with your friends in your group!
The students listen to the teacher’s direction and then discuss with their groups.

8.
The teacher asks the groups  to demonstrate the element of the set by using the model of Venn diagram : Which group wants to be a volunteer to demonstrate by using this model?
The students from one of the groups come to the class to present the element of the set by using Venn diagram models.

9.
Then, the teacher asks the other groups how about the result of the first group : Okay students, how about the answer? It is right?
The students answer the teacher.

10.
The teacher gives conclusion about the two student’s answer : The answer is right.
The students listen carefully to the teacher’s explanation.

Then, the teacher asks the student to list the element of the universal sets and the set that be discussed : Who wants to be a volunteer to do this questions?

The teacher says : “Your answer is good!
The other students listen to the teacher.

The teacher gives conclusion about the topic that learn in this meeting if to presenting a set can be used a Venn diagram and gives homework to the students that will be collected in the next meeting : Please do the homework and collect it in the next meeting! Okay?
The students listen carefully to the teacher’s explanation.

The teaching learning process is ended by pray together then the teacher gives greeting for the students : “Good afternoon my students!
The students pray together and answer the teacher’s greeting.
